So does my ZRX :yipie:

I guess oil filter threads are the next step down from oil threads lol

So... the higher octane I use the more power I'll make, right? Right?? :poke:

Just messing with you guys. I'd much rather have my filter on a little on the loose side than have it completely stuck. That SUCKS.

K&N just sent an e-mail offering a couple of free filters. They acknowledged the problem but said it was not that common.

I've never torqued a filter to a spec until this bike. a fellow at one of my first track days blew the seal on an oil filter and you know how that goes, an hour and a half later... that got me a little paranoid and i started torqing mine to the manufactures spec (plus safety wire). it feels as if the aluminum body of the filter bottoms out on the block?

back in the day i had a honda civic with the oil pressure check ball stuck and it would blow the filter off when the rev's were up ;) took a few minutes to fix that one.

So does my 1981 CB900F. So did every bike before the modern age... well, not my 1970 450 Mark III Desmo Ducati. Not only did it not have a filter at all, it didn't even have a screen on the oil pickup! :*(

I run KN on all three of my bikes. Not a single problem. It's a filter. It works. Period.

Wanna hear something?

I use Fram, tight as I can get them hand-tight. Never an issue. My Taurus was pushing 200K miles when I sold it. Still had good compression.

I tried a K&N oil filter once on an R1, tightened it down to factory spec. I sheared the nut off when I tried to change it. So now it's back to OEM filters and hand-tighten. Never had an issue with the filter backing off this method on any car or bike I've owned. My filter is safety-wired too, so never need to worry about it.

I don't know why y'all are having so much trouble. I am usually able to spin an old filter off by hand.

i've only ever hand tightened a filter. as tight as i can get it by hand is as good as it needs to be. never had a leak from the filter.

Saw this on another forum. LOOOOOOL!

Quote:
my last oil change on the kawi did NOT go as planned

A) its in a retarded spot
B) it was tighter than FOCK

i only hand tighten and i buy the K&N filter with the nut welded on the end.... that broke off... then chaos ensued
option b - filter wrench - NOPE can't get in there
option C - screwdriver- NOPE just ripped it open couldn't get a good angle
option d - HULK SMASH

Good stuff.... I need to fire down some KN Oil filters soon, like today... Does Cycle Gear have a good selection?

Probably going to swing by advance auto and pick up the pure one filter from the link kawi posted.

K an N guys were nice folks and did send a couple of replacement filter. Going to use those but probably go back to the hand tighten method (not torque to spec).

I still have one on my turbo-aquatrax that has been torqued.

I've never purchased a part for any vehicle that had as shitty of a fit as the K&N air filter I put on my 600rr.

+1 Their Air Filters are a joke.... I emailed K&N, they sent me a new one, and it fit a little better, but not fantastic... Wish I kept with OEM or went a different route.
